You're on this list because the work matters to you. Here's what I'm doing with it this summer.

Hey Reader,

Using context and intent is how performers connect with our audience. That's how AD performance, when it works well, feels like it's already inside the story, instead of at a distance.

Context is everything available to you before you open your mouth. Intent is what you do with it. Together, they're the difference between words that move and words that sit there.

Before I open registration to the public, you get first access. Think of it like a friend saving you a seat before the doors open.

I've been coaching voice actors for twenty years. Audio Description is where that experience is most specific and most useful.

This summer I'm running Summer Camp 2026. Two programs. One arc that carries through September.

When you approach Audio Description performance, it helps to imagine a friend seated next to you at a concert. Close enough to hear you, and the intimacy of that conversation. That's the relationship you're building with our AD audiences. Everything I'm running this summer is built around that kind of specificity.

Bootcamp Mondays in July builds the craft: pacing, timing, self-direction, live feedback on real material. Four weeks of performance coaching on the specific technical demands of Audio Description performance. Small group. Mondays in July. $297.

Beyond the Booth Tuesdays in July takes the career questions seriously, informed by four weeks of actual work. Where you fit in this industry, how you talk about what you do, what your next steps actually are. Business clarity. Capped at 10. Tuesdays in July. $300.

The full arc is Boothcamp. It's the Bootcamp in July, and a special Beyond the booth in August. Then an integration session in late September is your checkpoint after you've had time to apply things. Nine sessions. Three practical bonuses. $497. Summer school with a purpose.

That's the one I'd want if I were starting in AD today.

Register for Boothcamp — $497

If you already know you're only here for one side of this:

Performance coaching only — Bootcamp, Mondays in July, $297

Career clarity only — Beyond the Booth, Tuesdays in July, $300

Registration opens publicly soon. You have access now.

Beyond the Booth and Boothcamp applications are screened. Small groups only work when everyone belongs in the room. Bootcamp is open enrollment.

If you're unsure about fit, reach out before you join. Tell me where you are in your AD work, and I'll give you a straight answer.

Roy

P.S. If someone comes to mind who's been asking you how to get into AD performance, send this their way.

Hey Reader, I've always loved the ocean. The waves, the space, the surprisingly cool air at night. But the first time I drove Pacific Coast Highway, I wasn't ready for the road itself. The bridge that felt hundreds of feet above. Curves pressed tight against the cliffside. A sheer drop sometimes, right at the edge of the lane. I remember it didn't scare me. I could get close to this edge. Really close. And I didn't need to go over. I've been thinking about what it means to know where the edge...

Hey Reader, I’ve been thinking about legacy. Specifically, I’ve been sitting with a quote from Alan Lightman’s The Transcendent Brain, shared by Maria Popova at The Marginalian in 2023. It's like a physics scientist talking about legacy: “If you could tag each of the atoms in your body and follow them backward in time, through the air that you breathed during your life, through the food that you ate, back through the geological history of the Earth, through the ancient seas and soil, back to...

Hey Reader, After a lovely train ride along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, my niece picked me up in San Diego last weekend. Her boyfriend was in the car. In front of him, she turned around and asked: "Did you work on The Last of Us TV series?" She was glowing; a big smile, wide eyes, expectant, and also knowing the answer. I said yeah, I did. She lit up even more. She wanted to know more -- what it was like, what I actually do. And I watched her explain Audio Description to her boyfriend....
